Saturday at the shop was busy as ever, full of walk-ins and custom orders. Our team worked to the max making bulldogs, eyeballs, and coffins... yes coffins!
After an exhausting Saturday we crawled out of bed, fought through the rain and rolled down to San Francisco to the Lovely Details Bridal Showcase at Fort Mason. The Marina District was wet with rain, hardly the backdrop for our bubbly brides to be and their tag-a-long fiancés.
It’s funny... I thought that the cupcake rage extended to the masses, but clearly the thought of having cupcakes INSTEAD of a traditional wedding cakes is hard for people wrap their minds around. We are completely booked solid for weddings in the month of June, and expected to fill up the rest of the summer today... oh well... apparently we need to educate everyone on the glamour of “the cupcake”
Congratulations! Have you set a date? Have you decided on a dessert or cake? Were the scripted phrases of the day delivered with the most genuine smile over and over again. Brides, MOB’s, DOC’s, and MOH’s carefully perused each booth touching fabrics, taking photos and eyeballing our cupcakes. Every moment carefully documented, I’m sure it will end up in some wedding planning scrapbook. I even had the pleasure of having my photo taken with a bride to document her cupcake tasting. Her face was red with embarrassment as her mother forced us together with our painted smiles.
The highlight of the Bridal Showcase was definitely the music provided by Synchronized Sound. They actually managed to create a head-bobbing phenomenon when they bumped Flo Rida's, “Low” There’s nothing like watching brides and their entourage “get low, low, low, low, low.... ha!
Sniff the wine, take a sip, but don't swallow yet!!!! Roll the wine around in your mouth exposing it to all your taste buds.... swallow... and take a massive bite out of our Pink Champagne Cupcake, It's amazing....
Yes... Sift: a Cupcakery, the original wine country cupcake shop is making waves in the world of wine. Since our grand opening in April of 08' Sift has had the pleasure of pairing our cupcakes at several wine events throughout Sonoma, Napa , and Mendocino Counties. We made headlines when Dogwood Cellars invited us to pair up with them at the ZAP Zinfandel Festival at Fort Mason in San Francisco. For those of you who may not be familiar with ZAP...

We were a hit... we paired our Pink Champagne and our Snickerdoodle with Dogwood Cellar's 05 & 06 Zinfandels. Our table was flooded with wine enthusiasts amazed at perfect pair we created. We could hardly keep up with the wine chat, and the samples we were handing out... It didn't help that a mysterious wino kept sneaking up and grabbing whole cupcakes from our display tier and walking away with them.... like we didn't notice.... comon! I guess it's better taken as a complement.
Shortly after the opening of the event our both became the attraction of the evening... A big shout out to our friends over at "Catch" located in the Castro. They not only fed us with their to die for menu all night, but they sent people over to our pairing in the masses. The cupcakes were dwindling and we began to panic as the 800 cupcakes we brought were about to be obliterated and we still had 2 hours left of the show. Thinking quick on our feet, we began cutting them in half and serving them in cupcake wrappers which saved the evening.
To say the least our cupcakes were the topic of conversation of the night... and huge milestone for cupcakes and wine. Highlights of the evening were of course the amazing Zin's we had the pleasure of tasting, Hacking it with Hackett of Dogwood Cellars, and last but definitely not least.... The wine glass holder necklace! I gotta know who invented that...
